MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester Police, Fire, and AMR ambulance responded to Elm and Mechanic streets at around 6:15 p.m. for a person who was shot.
The shooting occurred on the sidewalk outside USA Chicken and Biscuits, a restaurant located within a block of City Hall and on a busy street. The victim was rushed to the Elliot Hospital reportedly suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg said the man has life-threatening injuries and it is unknown what part of the body he suffered gunshot wounds.
Aldenberg said any shooting was very concerning but to have one occur outside busy businesses, in downtown, during daylight, was very upsetting. He said he will be teaming with state and federal partners to continue to crack down on gun crime.
"The incident that happened tonight is not a random act and all people involved have been identified, and are all accounted for," he said.
After the incident, the shooter was walked to a waiting police car by detectives — but he was not handcuffed and did not appear to be under arrest.
Elm Street is currently closed for two blocks around the shooting.
More information will be added as it is available.
