LAPD Station Firebombed, Suspect In Custody

CANOGA PARK, CA — A man accused of firebombing a Los Angeles Police Department station in Canoga Park was in custody Monday morning. Los Angeles police arrested Jonathon Rosin, 24, within moments of the Sunday morning firebombing. He was booked on suspicion of igniting an explosive device. No one was hurt in the incident, which occurred at about 1 a.m. Sunday at the department's Topanga station at 21501 Schoenborn St. According to police, Rosin approached the station doors, lit a Molotov cocktail and lobbed it against the building. Rosin then fled on foot but was pursued by officers, who chased and arrested him, according to the LAPD. The foot pursuit of headed eastbound on Schoenborn Street from Topanga Station, and Rosin was taken into custody without incident at Canoga Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard. "The incident was witnessed by multiple LAPD personnel on the station's CCTV system. The flames were extinguished promptly by a supervisor," the department said in a written statement. "After Rosin was taken into custody officers observed that he smelled like gasoline." As of Monday morning, he was still in LAPD custody at the Van Nuys Jail while being held on $501,000.00 bail. LAPD Major Crimes Division is handling the investigation with support from LAFD Arson Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS).
