ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst have handled cases involving a domestic battery, retail theft, playground damage, a missing laptop, a stolen car, DUIs and driving violations. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Domestic battery Robb Tavill, 55, of Elmhurst, was arrested about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of South Argyle. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to police, Tavill struck the victim during an argument. Retail theft A man removed three bottles of bourbon, concealed them in his waistband and tried to steal them about 9:30 p.m. Sunday at Mariano's, 678 N. York St. He was stopped by security as he was leaving the store. The bottles were recovered, while the man ran out and went into a black four-door car. The man was described as black, 25 years old, having short black hair, and wearing a white surgical mask, a gray coat with a gray hooded sweatshirt, a red T-shirt, black pants and gray shoes. Missing laptop A woman informed police Thursday that she was missing a laptop belonging to her employer. She said she last had the laptop while shopping at Whole Foods Market, 215 S. Route 83. An officer reviewed the store's security footage, which showed the woman was in possession of the laptop as she left the store. Playground damaged Several pieces of playground equipment were damaged overnight Thursday at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 426 N. West Ave. The case is pending an investigation. Catalytic converter stolen A catalytic converter was stolen from a car in a driveway overnight Friday in the 200 block of South Poplar Avenue. The metals in catalytic converters have become a lot more valuable in the last year. Stolen car An officer stopped the driver of a car that was reported stolen in Stone Park. Officers arrested the driver without any problems about 6 a.m. Saturday at Hampshire and Webster. A search of the car yielded a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Charges are pending. Drug possession John Bishop, 51, of Hanover Park, was arrested about 7 p.m. Saturday at North and Villa on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. In a traffic stop, Bishop was found to have a warrant from the Lombard Police Department. After being arrested, an officer searched Bishop and found meth, police said. Loan scam A resident in the 100 block of East North Avenue was contacted by a person who claimed to be willing to provide the resident with a loan Thursday. The victim gave his banking information and Social Security number to the suspect. The victim is not out any money and reported the incident to his bank. DUIs Aldo Morales, 18, of Round Lake Beach, was arrested about 3 a.m. Friday at Route 83 and St. Charles on charges of DUI, unlawful possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, no valid driver's license, unlawful transportation of open alcohol, driving with only one headlight, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and consumption of alcohol by a minor. He was released on bond. Olivia Palumbo, 19, of Addison, was arrested about 1 a.m. Sunday at Spring and Madison on charges of DUI, improper lane usage and disobeying a stop sign. She was released on bond. Warrant Anthony Dipietro, 46, of Bolingbrook, was arrested about 11 a.m. Friday in the 100 block of North Addison on a Will County Sheriff's Office warrant. He was released on bond. Trespassing Ricardo Cuevas, 39, of Chico, California, was cited about 8 p.m. Friday at North and Route 83 on a charge of criminal trespass to a motor vehicle. He was released on bond. He was stopped after an officer determined that the car he was driving had been stolen. Driver's violations Isaiah Randle, 18, of Chicago, was cited about 1 a.m. Saturday at York and Grand on charges of no valid driver's license, speeding and improper lighting. He was released on bond. Lloyd Walls, 36, of Aurora, was cited about 3 a.m. Saturday at Myrtle and North on charges of no valid driver's license and failure to signal when required. He was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
