DEARBORN, MI — Ford Motor Co. on Monday issued a safety recall affecting more than 620,000 2016-19 Ford Explorer vehicles in the U.S, including some police vehicles. According to the recall, roof rail covers on some 2016-19 Ford Explorers may become detached from the vehicle while driving, creating a potential hazard for other vehicles on the road. The company said base and XLT trim levels, as well as Police Interceptor and Explorer Sport models with roof rail covers that are painted Silver, Black or Absolute Black, are affected by the recall. The recall affects 620,483 vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories, over 36,000 vehicles in Canada and more than 4,200 in Mexico, the company said. Ford said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the cause of the recall. Dealers will secure the roof rails with plastic push pins, Ford said. Customers will begin being notified during the week of June 28.
