PHOENIX, AZ — An armed security guard was charged in connection with a deadly shooting outside a west Phoenix club on Sunday morning, Phoenix police said.
Ruben Sekiseka, 29, was killed in the shooting, which occurred just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday near Bethany Home Road and 27th Avenue, according to Phoenix police.
Serafin Chavez, 34, was charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence, according to police.
Chavez is being held in jail on $750,000 bail in connection with the shooting.
If convicted of second-degree murder, Chavez faces a mandatory 10-year prison sentence, with a maximum sentence of 22 years in prison.
Chavez initially told detectives that Sekiseka shot himself as he was being escorted out of a club after an altercation, police said.
But detectives discovered that Chavez shot Sekiseka and hid the casing from his firearm prior to police arriving, according to police.
