BUFORD, GA — Six people were injured when a boat exploded on Lake Lanier, some 45 miles north of Atlanta in Buford, Georgia, Sunday afternoon. Two teenagers were among the six wounded, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and others have reported. The boat exploded as it was refueling at the gas docks at the Port of Indecision marina near Margaritaville at Lanier Islands around 2:30 p.m., the Journal-Constitution reporting, citing a Georgia Department of Natural Resources officer. Both teens, a 16-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy, were flown to Grady Memorial Hospital after the explosion. A 39-year-old woman was also taken there, and three others who were not hospitalized also sustained injuries. Black smoke and fire could be seen in photos of the explosion shared by news outlets on Twitter. The explosion occurred just a day after the body of a missing boater was found in Lake Lanier. The body was recovered about 24 hours after authorities said the 23-year-old boater jumped off a pontoon boat, according to a WXIA report.
