TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has identified the man killed in a Sunday morning wreck involving five vehicles, including an Alabama State Trooper, on McFarland Boulevard at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway.
ALEA Public Information Officer Senior Trooper Reginal King said the crash occurred when the Trooper's 2017 Ford Explorer struck a 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by Jose Angel Guerrero Ortiz, 47, of Tuscaloosa. Ortiz was pronounced deceased at the scene.
King then said the trooper was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment for minor injuries.
"Three other vehicles were involved after the initial collision," King said. "Nothing further is available as Troopers with the ALEA Major Accident Investigation Team continue to investigate."
Patch previously reported the crash happened at 9:35 a.m., resulting in McFarland Boulevard being blocked off to all traffic by police well into the afternoon hours as TPD's Accident Reconstruction Unit processed the scene, before handing the investigation over to ALEA.
