City of Portland, Maine Public Works Department MAINTENANCE WORKER II-STREETS & SIDEWALKS - Successful applicant will work a five 8-hour shift schedule - Monday thru Friday. Requirements: Thorough knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a wide variety of construction equipment; ability to operate equipment efficiently and safely; ability to make minor repairs; good visual acuity for driving and physical strength, agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and members of the public; valid Maine Class B driver’s license (must provide license number); must undergo a pre-employment medical exam and fitness assessment; must pass federally mandated drug test; must have and maintain a good driving record. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal conviction background check. *May be willing to hire the right applicant with Class C license at Grade 16 and help to obtain Class B license within six (6) month probationary period.* Pay rate at Grade 17 starting at $811.20/week.
