City of Portland, Maine Public Works Department MAINTENANCE WORKER II - TRAFFIC Traffic Section - Schedule will be Monday thru Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. then will be subject to winter shift assignment. May also be required to work some nights during traffic striping season. Requirements: Working knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a wide variety of heavy and complex construction equipment used on various Traffic section related jobs as well as winter operations; knowledge of hazards and of applicable safety rules and regulations regarding this equipment; knowledge of work zone safety and ability to construct a safe and efficient work zone; ability to work in or around an active roadway safely and in a courteous manner; good visual acuity for driving and physical strength, agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions; ability to distinguish colors and patterns; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and members of the public. Desired Experience: Ability to make minor repairs to equipment used in Traffic/Public Works such as field adjustments to line striper, pavement marking eraser, pavement saw and other related equipment; experience in operating heavy and complex construction equipment; pavement marking layout training; work zone safety training; crosswalk paint machine training; sign installation training or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Requirements: Must possess valid Maine Class B driver’s license (must provide license number); must have and maintain a good driving record; must pass federally mandated drug test; must pass pre-employment physical and fitness assessment.
