Seasonal Part-time Help wanted: Duluth Pilot Boat Deck Mate Under the direction of the Captain or First Mate on watch, the DM is primarily responsible for assisting with one or more pilot’s or passengers transfer from the pilot boat to a ship or from a ship. He also assists in handling the docking lines when departing the dock or when returning. Must be able to climb short ladders and lift 50 – 75 lbs. Other optional duties for additional hours include maintenance work on the boat or at the support shop. Position is an on-call job with notification to work given ½ day to full day notice ahead of time. Work time is normally 2 – 4 hours at a time. Work hours are on a 24 / 7 schedule. Starting pay is $23.00 per hour for days and $30.00 per hour for night shifts with increases for time accumulated. Training is provided & paid for. As all U.S. merchant mariners, Deck Mates obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (paid for by us), be drug and alcohol free on the job and are subject to random drug testing.
