YONKERS, NY — An incident on Friday night left Yonkers police officers in the hospital after being exposed to an unknown chemical while confronting an armed man.
Police say one officer fell and struck his head on the pavement and other responding officers were sickened to the point of "semi-consciousness." The suspect also became ill during the incident.
"We believe that while searching the perpetrator, they were exposed to dangerous drugs — we are running tests right now to determine exactly what," Police Commissioner John Mueller said in a statement released on Saturday. "Everyone who was exposed went to the hospital, including the perpetrator. As of this morning, all the Police Officers have been released and are recouping at home."
