The world premiere of the hilarious, thought provoking documentary "A White Man Walks Into A Barbershop" with special guests.
Almost a decade ago, a small film crew making a documentary about racism in America drove into Meridian to get gas. On a whim the director decided to walk into Jenkin's Barbershop to see if he could film a little bit in the shop. The welcome he recived from the owner Kevin Lewis Sr. and the rest of the barbershop turned a one hour lunch stop into a 2 day affair with the crew filming at the barbershop, two local churches and one weekend day at pop warner football game.
"The town of Meridian was so kind and welcoming that I promised Kevin Lewis that when the film comes out we'd have the world premire here in town," director Kyle Schickner explains.
So on June 12th, join Kyle, Kevin and the rest of the stars of "A White Man Walks Into A Barbershop" for an exicting evening that will include, the film, a special perfomance by local rapper James Da Barber (who also appears in the film).
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the East Mississippi Boys and Girls Club and the local demoractice comittee will be on hand to register new voters.
Filmmaker Kyle Schickner hits the road, criss crossing America with the hope of examining racism's hold on our country, only to discover the grip racism has on himself.
Visiting barbershops, churches, and homes from Alabama to Minneapolis, from D.C to L.A, this honest, humorous, searing documentary pulls the veil away from white liberal ideology and the social warriors who use race and cancel culture as a weapon.
See what happens when....
