COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — Seven people, including a gunman, were killed early Sunday morning in a shooting at a mobile home community in Colorado Springs. Police told local news outlets multiple gunshot victims were already dead when they arrived at the Canterbury Manufactured Home Community in the 2800 block of Preakness Way shortly after midnight. One victim was still alive when police arrived and was taken to an area hospital, but died shortly after. Police said they believe all victims knew each other. The suspected mobile home shooter was the boyfriend of a female victim at the party attended by friends, family and children. He walked inside and opened fire before shooting himself, police said. Children at the attack weren't hurt and were placed with relatives. The birthday party was for one of the people killed, police said. Police on Sunday hadn't released the identities of the shooter or victims. Authorities say a motive wasn't immediately known. It was Colorado's worst mass shooting since a gunman killed 10 people at a Boulder supermarket March 22. "The tragic shooting in Colorado Springs is devastating," Gov. Jared Polis said Sunday. "Especially as many of us are spending the day celebrating the women in our lives who have made us the people we are today." Colorado Springs Police Chief Vince Niski called the situation a "tragedy" in a statement obtained by KOAA. "From the officers who responded to the shooting to the investigators still on scene, we are all left incredibly shaken," he said. The Associated Press contributed reporting.
