Portsmouth resident to represent NH at Miss U.S of America

Portsmouth resident and former Windham Resident, Rachael Mills, was recently awarded the at-large title of Miss New Hampshire U.S of America and will compete for Miss U.S of America in August. Being an at-large contestant means she did not compete at a local pageant but will be competing at the national pageant held this summer. "When people hear the term "beauty pageant" they tend to think of the glam aspect of it but what people tend to overlook is the valuable lessons and opportunities the contestants are awarded during these events" she explained. "During my time competing in pageants I have earned scholarships, obtained valuable interview skills, and many opportunities to volunteer within my community and state." The most significant and rewarding aspect of winning this title is the opportunity to promote her platform nationwide which is brining awareness to military and military family support. "I am currently working towards a master’s in psychology and hope to continue my education after that to become a military psychologist. Winning to me is not just about the crown. It is the chance to promote my platform nationwide and bring awareness to supporting our military and their families. The pageant awards thousands of dollars to their contestants which I plan to put towards furthering my education" Mills explained.
