CONCORD, NH — Concord firefighters were called to another fire along the Storrs Street railroad tracks on Sunday. Around 11:15 a.m., dispatch began receiving calls about fire and smoke coming from the southern part of the city near South Main and Gulf streets which was presumed, at first, to be another homeless camp fire. Firefighters arrived a few minutes later and found a large pile of railroad ties and brush, not far from a number of camps, behind the Fairfield Inn on Gulf Street, on fire. After about 30 minutes, tankers ran out of water and firefighters began tapping hydrants. The closest one was off Gas Street on South Main Street. As of 1 p.m., firefighters are still at the scene extinguishing the fire. Concord firefighters have been called to the area several times during the past year for fires at camps along the tracks. A cleanup effort behind Market Basket began in April. Volunteers only made it so far but were able to clear out campers and a small section of the tracks. NEWS 603 also posted video on YouTube.com.
