Description

PHOENIX — A Phoenix police officer shot and seriously wounded an armed robbery suspect in a pursuit that began late Friday night near 35th and Peoria avenues. An officer with 13 years of experience shot the suspect, a 34-year-old man, after the man pointed a gun at him after the pursuit reached 5600 Happy Valley Road, Phoenix police said in a narrative. Police were able to stop the car driven by a man suspected in an armed robbery in Glendale by using the "grappler" technique in which police strike a pursuing car on the driver's side bumper a certain way. The man fired one shot from a "long gun" at 35th and Peoria, police said, after a patrol sergeant got behind the car. Police said they found a gun in the car after the suspect was shot. The suspect was in critical condition at a local hospital as of Sunday afternoon. An update on his condition was not available later in the day.
