Description

UC Villagers – Have fun and help Codornices Creek, 10 AM –noon Sat., June 5 Get to know the creek next door as you do light work and learn about plants animals you see, as well as human history, the challenges of facing urban nature, and hopes, and ways to make this creek a more vibrant part of Village life. Since June 5 is both National Trails Day and part of California Invasive Species Week, we’ll talk about the value of completing the creekside trail and the importance of keeping varied vegetation for the sake of wildlife. Despite two decades to dedicated work by volunteers, more is needed to keep Codornices Creek as an urban wildlife sanctuary. Spring especially always brings the need to control weeds that don’t “play well with others.” Friends of Five Creeks, sponsors of the event, has worked to help nature in Albany for 25 years. Learn more about them at fivecreeks.org. Families are especially welcome -- Kids should be able to follow directions and be around reasonably sharp tools. Please email [email protected] if you have questions. Meet at the log seating area at 8th Street and the creek, just south of the Village boundary. Wear sturdy shoes with good traction; we recommend long pants. We supply gloves, tools, and good company.
