Learn how to join pieces of metal through project oriented welding. Different types of welding will be explored in these 6 hour courses. WELDING 101 - 6 Hour StudyLearn how to join pieces of metal through the different types of welding! This course will offer an overview of different welding processes emphasizing sound welds with sufficient penetration. Participants are encouraged to bring their own ideas and aesthetics.  Creative guidance will focus on the creation of table top, garden and yard art with scrap metal.  Limited metal will be supplied. Unless specific in the description of the course, participants are encouraged to discuss individual projects with staff to ensure proper materials are obtained. Additional materials and fees will be the participant's responsibility. Ages: 16+ Available dates & times Steel Magnolias with Kris Graper Saturday, May 8; 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.Just in time for Mothers' Day - This course is perfect for those interested in learning more about fabricating with metal. The course designed for beginning and intermediate Makers to forge and shape metal leaves and a stamen using heat and hammer. The shaped parts will be assembled by welding them together with a wire fed MIG welder. In addition to MIG welding basics, some techniques to be covered are sinking, forming, swaging and chiseling along with using a band saw, wire wheel, and angle grinder. Fee: $120 MIG Welding - Candle Sticks with Mei Fogleman Sunday, May 23; 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.This intro to MIG welding class will focus on the safety and working basics of fabricating with metal, MIG welders, and other metalworking tools. Participants will learn how to prep material as well as design, fabricate, and finish individual candle sticks. Because of the short duration of this workshop, participants will work with a limited, but ample selection of materials that will be included with the class fee.
