handbuilding ceramics with air dry clay - Natalie Kuenzi
Through this class, you will discover simple and fun ways to create with air dry clay. Over four sessions, we will explore the grounding, tactile qualities of the material. Air dry clay looks, feels, and acts like traditional clay, without the need for a kiln.
With demonstrations of handbuilding processes—pinch, coil, and slab—you will create two projects guided by your personal vision and animated by your sense of touch. First, you will explore your approach to making through the creation of a Moon Jar 달항아리—a traditional Korean form beloved for it’s simple form that reveals the hand of the maker imparted through the process of creating. Each piece is unique and captures a sense of individual beauty.
Next, you will develop your sense of touch through the creation of a decorative wall-piece for your home, office, or studio. This project will allow you to explore your imagination through pattern and repeated imagery that is meaningful to you.
All in-person classes at the Tacony LAB take place under Covid-19 policies of face masks, social distancing, reduced capacities, hand-washing and regular disinfecting of tools and surfaces.
