Press release from Hope Hospice: May 8, 2021 The Hope Hospice Board of Directors has elected Pat Brown to the position following former Pleasanton Police Chief Craig Eicher's completion of term. Brown has served on Hope's board for six years, most recently as Vice President. He also currently serves in the position of Treasurer on the Board of Directors at Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton. Though now retired, Brown had worked as an executive for various media outlets, including the San Francisco Examiner, the California Newspapers Partnership, and the Meredith Corporation. "After a very successful career in the publishing business, I was at a point where I wanted to give back to the community," Brown says. "I'd been invited to serve on the Hope Hospice board by a couple people who I knew from Castlewood Country Club. I knew little about hospice at the time, but I was happy to offer my experience in business management and financials. The turning point in solidifying my decision was going through the orientation for new board members. I was blown away by the commitment and positive attitude of the staff. The commitment to make their patients' final days as comfortable as possible was truly inspiring." Hope Hospice, which celebrated 40 years of service in 2020, started as a big idea from a small group of local residents who wanted to ensure families could receive professional medical help and emotional support while caring for a loved one with a life-limiting illness in the comfort of home. To start, Hope was facilitated by an all-volunteer workforce. Over the past four decades, the organization has grown on all fronts: in the number of clients served, in services offered, in staff employed, and in territory covered. As the Hope Hospice leadership looks to the future, the organization's impact on the Tri-Valley and adjacent East Bay cities is expected to increase.
