We're using Donors Choose to raise money to purchase Acoustic guitars for a music class next school year. Ask for Derrek. Here is the information for Donors Choose. BAOA is an alternative school. Our students are dealing with various emotional and psychological issues that hinder their ability to function in a traditional learning environment. For most, this school is their last chance of staying in school and graduating. My Project Most students want to learn to play an instrument at some point in their life. We want to provide a much-needed opportunity for our students, not only to learn to play the guitar but to write music as well and gain a greater appreciation for music overall. Most of our students cannot afford private lessons and do not have access to an instrument of their own. We also want to provide our students with a sense of accomplishment and help raise their self-esteem. We also want to provide incentives for students to maintain good attendance. Simply having something to look forward to will help provide the nudge many of our students need. Finally, learning to play an instrument has proven to increase cognitive ability.
