Deckhand/Vessel and Marina Maintenance (Seattle) Local marine towing company is seeking a full-time deckhand/maintenance person (painting and cleaning). We are a well-established local company operating a fleet of small towing vessels specializing in the towing of commercial vessels, yachts, barges and floating homes. In addition to this, we also operate a marina and commercial building. The deckhand position is mostly a Monday through Friday with some on call and weekend work. Pay is dependent on knowledge and experience. If you are an experienced deckhand looking to stay local or if you are new to the industry and looking to learn to work on small tugboats, this may be the job for you. Must be in good enough physical condition to be able to climb ladders, pull and secure heavy lines and transit the decks of vessels large and small. Lift 75 pounds. Must be willing to work in inclement weather. Must be drug free and submit to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing (this includes Marijuana use). Nonsmokers preferred. Must have a good command of the English language and be able to communicate well. Must be a self-motivated individual. Must live within a reasonable distance for short notice call out or emergencies. Necessary skills or the interest and ability to learn. • Knot tying, splicing and the use and care of lines of terminal gear. • Line handling, line throwing and securing of lines. • General mechanical and electrical knowledge. • Needle scaling and other rust removal techniques. • Painting of buildings and vessels, interior and exterior. • Small power and hand tool usage. • Wood working. Cutting and fastening. • Metal working. Welding, cutting. • General cleaning and maintenance procedures. • General mechanical knowledge. Changing out simple parts. • Small boat handling and operations. • Safety procedures for all things including man overboard drills, launching of survival craft, donning a survival suit, fire and flooding drills as well as paint and chemical safety procedures and general workplace safety. Credentials or the ability to obtain. • Valid driver’s license • Merchant Mariner License. (Master, Mate, OS, AB) • Boaters Card • TWIC • Passport • First Aid, AED certification. • Approved workplace safety certification.
