About the Company: Small busy mobile food vendor seeking reliable part time summer employee for weekends only. We started out last year at Smorgasburg and have a second location at Governor's island this summer. Mai Bpen Rai (which loosely means ‘no worries’ in Thai) is a mobile/pop-up Green Papaya Stand. We currently operate at various food fairs and food festivals around Brooklyn and NYC. The company is owned and run by two partners. Our chef and owner has lived and worked in Thailand for over 5 years working in restaurants, (and as a scuba dive instructor) through Mai Bpen Rai he is sharing his favorite Thai style street food – green papaya salads otherwise known as Som Tum. Our mission at Mai Bpen Rai to be an honest company, selling fresh and delicious food with a great customer experience. This position is part time, Saturday & Sunday only, May – October at Governor’s Island. Perfect for students or anyone who is looking to be outdoors and make some extra money this summer! ☀️ Daytime hustle and have your nights free. Open May 1st to October 31st - Saturday, Sunday a must. About the Position: This is a unique food stand, in a unique location! You will be trusted to know/learn some basic information about green papaya salads and their origin. Each papaya salad is made to order - shredded green papaya is pounded with the rest of the ingredients in a mortar & pestle in front of the customers. This position requires a lot of care, attention to detail mixed with speed, and perfection through repetition. You must be able to work quickly, execute at a high level, maintain a positive attitude, and maintain an exceptional level of communicating with your teammates. Job Responsibilities: - Expected to show up on time and prepared for shifts – the stand is located at Governors Island. You will be issued an employee pass and will be expected to be on time via a ferry that brings you to the island. - Responsible for being stocked and prepared in advance of each shift beginning - Follow recipes and directions - Complete opening and closing side work - Maintain a clean and organized work station - Complete all closing side work assigned to you by your manager and chef - Communicate clearly and often to your team of your needs and how you can help others - Be able to move fluidly between taking orders, preparing the orders, cleaning and other tasks depending on what is needed by your manager - Perform inventory checks and keep updated inventory logs - Follow strict COVID protocols as dictated by the Company and your Manager Job Requirements: Must be able to work and communicate well with a small team in a fast paced environment – outdoors and in the summer heat. (we do have a roof on the stand that blocks most sunlight and provide sunblock!) Must be able to work a fast-paced environment for hours straight. During the height of service a break may not be possible due to the environment and amount of orders A good attitude and desire to learn Must have a Safeserv or Food Handler’s License Physical Demands Requires standing for long periods of time, walking, carrying up to 50lbs, grasping, writing, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and co-workers Be able to stand and walk for 8 hours or more depending on business needs Benefits $15 an hour + tips Make your own papaya salad for lunch Discounts at other vendors with you staff badge A fun and friendly work environment in a beautiful NYC park We believe that creating a warm and inclusive work environment is just as important as the work we do.
