Description
if you want to make money in music this may be the all originals project you have been looking for. you must have solid talent, drive and ambition. no drunks or drugs. if you're not into rock, bluesy rock, rock n roll rock, hard rock, other rock or really good classic rock it's not gonna work out. having an ear for good punk, new wave, folk rock and other flavors is desirable as well. in a nutshell: musical depth. i can't teach this to someone. it's something you feel. or don't. if you don't--you don't. and it's not going to work. be great about the business angles and getting work done; the latter point means--you're not refusing to pitch in and get through a song that you're not totally in love with or when need to grind it out to get your approach refined. the upshot in the instance indicated directly above: you have to work it out--just like the instrumentalists do; you can't be holding things up because you haven't worked the song out like everyone else did. really good instrumentalists work on their approach and technique as a continual learning process. i have seldom seen the same type of process in the singers i have come across. if you can't continually stretch your creative boundaries this is not your scene. yes you need to think about it and work out the part. this is very different than aping a cover. if you want to be the band a&r person, picking the songs you want to do then keep it moving and get a job at a record label doing a&r. the a&r job in this band is already filled--by me. if you're looking for original music that exactly matches the sound and vibe of your all time favorite records--stay home and listen to your favorite records. we will be making records, not listening to our favorite records. there is a huge difference between the two activities and yes i have had to explain this to people who have it sludged up in their minds. we need someone who can work out an approach to songs and not bring things to a screeching halt because of this or that rationalization or excuses. when you're a big solo artist superstar you can call the shots and pick the songs you want to do. until then, just get something working. if you play an instrument on an awkward intermediate level and demand that it has to be in the mix and on stage--good bye. if you want to play an instrument it has to be pro level only. case closed. cowboy chords and hunting and pecking on the fretboard or keyboard doesn't cut it here. send a link to music or video that demonstrates natural ability, an appealing vocal quality and texture, pitch control, stylistic integrity, and a definite rock type vibe.
