Celebrate National Bike Month with a scenic, casual bike ride with the Charles Houston Rec Center and PEDAL POSITIVE in Alexandria, VA. THE RIDE: Enjoy a scenic, casual, and COVID-safe bike ride with the Alexandria RPCA's Charles Houston Recreation Center and PEDAL POSITIVE in Alexandria, VA as we celebrate National Bike Month. We'll ride a combination of bike trails, bike lanes, and low-traffic neighborhood streets around the area. This is a great ride if you recently learned how to ride, are just getting back into it, or just want to get in a Saturday morning spin while enjoying the outdoors with fellow riders. We'll meet at the Charles Houston Recreation Center in Old Town Alexandria to begin our adventure. Ride Leaders/Marshals will be on-hand to help the ride go smoothly. TIME: Sign-in begins at 9:00AM. Pre-ride briefing at 9:15AM. Wheels roll at 9:30AM. We'll start on schedule to respect everyone's time. MEET/SIGN-IN LOCATION: Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe Street, Alexandria, VA. COVID-19 GUIDELINES (MANDATORY) For the safety of all participants, we will follow CDC guidelines for COVID-19 safety as well as the following: Do not attend if you have tested positive for COVID-19, are waiting for COVID-19 test results, are showing COVID-19 symptoms, or if you've had close contact with a person who has tested positive for or who has symptoms of COVID-19.You must have a face mask and wear it properly at stops.6-feet physical distancing will be followed anytime wheels are stopped.Please maintain distancing when stopping and at stops.We will split into smaller ride groups, as needed, to allow appropriate spacing.Be respectful and give space to pedestrians and other trail users.There are no exceptions to these policies. RIDE LEVEL/TERRAIN: All levelsCasual/Social paceNo-DropMostly flat terrain RIDE ROUTES TO CHOOSE FROM: 8-mile Old Town to Crystal City Loop (For all levels, including new riders and those who haven't ridden in a while)18-mile Old Town to DC Loop (For those wanting to stretch their legs a bit) WHAT TO BRING (REQUIRED): Mask (REQUIRED)Helmet (REQUIRED)Bike in good working order (REQUIRED). Note: There are Capital Bikeshare stations within a block of Charles Houston Rec Center, if needed.Water and snack to maintain hydration and energyAbility to safely ride the selected distanceA positive attitude :-)WHAT TO BRING (SUGGESTED): Spare tube/patch kit, pump/CO2Bike lights Identification and emergency money.OTHER: No music/headphones during the ride.Practice safe riding and obey all traffic laws. The center is named after Charles Hamilton Houston, the civil rights lawyer and Howard University Law School Dean who was triumphant in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education U.S. Supreme Court case.
