Salem State Coronavirus Vaccination Clinic To Reopen Tuesday

SALEM, MA — The North Shore Regional coronavirus vaccination clinic at Salem State will reopen on Tuesday — more than two months after it suspended operation as the state reallocated most of its available doses to mass vaccination clinics in February. The clinic, which is a partnership between Beverly, Danvers, Lynn, Marblehead, Nahant, Peabody, Salem, Saugus, Swampscott, will open two days per week with a capability of 1,000 vaccinations per week using the Pfizer vaccine. The clinic will run out of the O'Keefe Center at Salem State. The clinic will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m next week before Thursday hours shift to 2 to 6 p.m. the following week. All those ages 16 or older are currently eligible for the Pfizer vaccine, with the potential the Food and Drug Administration will authorize it for younger people within the next few weeks. Those under 18 must have a signed parental consent form. Appointments are advised to start on Tuesday and can be made here. Walk-in appointments will be opened depending on the availability of the vaccine that day. The clinic reopens at a time when Gov. Charlie Baker said this week the state will ramp down the mass vaccination site at the Danvers DoubleTree Hotel in favor of regional collaborations — such as Salem State — hospitals, community health centers and the federal pharmacy program. "We are adjusting our vaccine strategy to be more targeted," Baker said during a Monday news conference. "And we'll shift vaccines to smaller-scale operations that can focus on particular communities or particular populations." Baker said the Danvers site will close in June.
