Press release from the City of Cambridge: May 6, 2021 Beginning in July, the Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) will offer safe and engaging programming to Junior Kindergarten-8th Graders at five Community Schools Summer Camps, four CYP Preteen / Middle School Summer Programs, and combination programming offered in partnership by Cambridge Public Schools (CPS) and DHSP at four school locations. Additionally, CYP will run three teen internships through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. Registration will be open May 10 – May 31, 2021 for Community Schools Summer Camps and CYP Preteen / Middle School Summer Programs. Families will be notified of whether their child will have a spot in DHSP summer programming during the first week of June. Children who are eligible for the CPS / DHSP combination programming will be contacted by CPS staff in May. All DHSP programs strive to be as inclusive and accessible to all Cambridge families as possible. To ensure an equitable enrollment process, and to adhere to the City and Commonwealth's COVID-19 safety guidelines, capacity in Community Schools Summer Camps and CYP Preteen / Middle School Summer Programs will be limited, 40% of seats in each program will be reserved for income-eligible families, and general enrollment will be determined by a lottery system. Community Schools Summer Camps Grades: Junior Kindergarten (completed) - 5th Grade Dates/ Times: July 6 - August 20, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Sign up available by two-week sessions Locations: Amigos Community School, Cambridgeport School, Kennedy-Longfellow Community School (located at King Open School), Haggerty Community School, Martin Luther King, Jr. Community School Tuition: View Tuition Rates DHSP Community Schools Summer Camps offer a range of culturally-responsive educational and recreational activities in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment. Camp activities are designed to develop children's social and emotional growth and build healthy relationships. Each Community Schools Camp focuses on a theme and campers participate in a wide range of activities each day. Registration will be open May 10 – May 31. Families will be notified of whether their child will have a spot in Community Schools Summer Camp during the first week of June. Cambridge Public Schools / DHSP Combination Programming Grades: Junior Kindergarten (completed) - 5th Grade Dates / Times: July 6 - August 20, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Locations: Fletcher-Maynard Academy, King Open School, Morse School, Peabody School Developed in partnership by CPS and DHSP, this programming is designed to offer a full day experience for children in grades JK-5 with structured academic programming in the morning and camp programming in the afternoon. CPS will notify families whose children qualify for this program and will provide registration information to eligible children beginning in May. Cambridge Youth Programs (CYP) Pre-Teen / Middle School Summer Programs Grades: 4th-8th Grades Dates / Times: July 6 - August 20, 2021, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Sign up available by two-week sessions Tuition: View tuition rates for grades 4-7 Tuition is free for 8th graders. Discovery Program at Russell Youth Center Empowerment Program at Frisoli Youth Center Sports Leadership Academy at Moses Youth Center Middle School Summer Program at Gately Youth Center Registration will be open May 10 – May 31. Families will be notified of whether their child will have a spot in CYP Pre-Teen / Middle School Summer Programs during the first week of June. Cambridge Youth Program (CYP) Teen Internships Ages: 14-19 (summer after high school) Dates / Times: July 6 – August 13, 4 days a week, Monday – Friday, 1:00-6:00 p.m. As part of the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program (MSYEP), CYP is offering three paid teen internships. Each internship focuses on leadership and community-building in an inclusive environment and will offer in-person and virtual experiences: Boys to Men II - Leadership empowerment program for young kings focusing on Physical Fitness/Nutrition, Self-Care, Financial literacy and Weekly Culture Dialogues centered around Sports, Music, Fashion, and Social Justice. Virtual Voices - You have a voice and we want to hear it! Do you like writing poetry? Graphic design? Storytelling? There will be field trips, movement workshops, art facilitated workshops, and so much more fun! Come Join Virtual Voices and be ready to get on stage and speak! Lift Up Leadership - Want to learn the science behind working out!? Join Lift Up Leadership, where we will lift up the mind, body and soul of fitness.
