MINEOLA, NY — Nassau County's Parks Department will be accepting the New York State-issued Lifetime Liberty Pass, allowing free and discounted access to its park system amenities to qualifying disabled veterans, County Executive Laura Curran's office announced on Friday.
At the state level, the Lifetime Liberty Pass entitles disabled veterans to access parks, historic sights, and other recreational facilities run by the state's Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Places, and the Department of Environmental Conservation.
Veterans using the same pass in Nassau will also be able to use a bevy of the county's parks, including its 18-hole course, miniature golf course, and aquatic center in Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Other amenities that they will be able to use the pass at include the county's historic sights like Old Bethpage Village Restoration.
The pass is free, but an application is required. To apply, veterans must supply their documentation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, a 2" x 2" photograph of themselves, as well as valid New York State driver's license, or non-driver identification card.
