Braintree Schools Get $500 Grant For Prom, Graduation

BRAINTREE, MA — The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office awarded Braintree Public Schools a $500 grant to support safe and substance-free prom and graduation events. "Proms and graduations are going to look very different this year, but communities are still working to provide safe options for around these events," District Attorney Michael Morrissey said in a statement. County officials said the grant money came from funds forfeited in criminal prosecutions. No tax dollars were used. The money can be used to offset the cost of alcohol-free events after prom or graduation, or safe transportation to prom. "We have provided this kind of support for years and have seen the success of these efforts in communities across Norfolk County," Morrissey said. "There was a time when parents worried about their teens being on the roads after these events, or attending gatherings where substances were present. The number of safe events across the region has helped to allay those very real concerns."
