POSITION: Groundskeeper DATE OPENED: May 7, 2021 DATE CLOSED: When filled POSITION SUMMARY: This is a seasonal full-time position with the potential to evolve into a regular full-time benefited position. This position performs skilled work in the maintenance of the fairground’s turf, plant material and property. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Mowing lawns • Pruning bushes, trees and shrubbery • Edging walkways • Raking and blowing leaves and debris • Cultivates and fertilizes lawns, plants, shrubs and trees • Sweeps and maintains walkways, driveways, building entrances and other assigned areas • Operates grounds keeping equipment including, but not limited to, power, lawnmowers, power-edger’s and blowers • Installation and repair of sprinklers and irrigation systems REQUIRED SKILLS: • Understanding procedures, methods and techniques used in installation, repair and maintenance of sprinklers and irrigation systems • Knowledge of and ability to use irrigation system tools and equipment • Experience performing skilled work in repair and maintenance of sprinklers and irrigation • Possess interpersonal skills including patience, tack and courtesy • Ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools • Good communication skills with ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions • Capacity to work independently with little direction • Ability to lift and move 30 lbs. • Ability to bend, stoop and twist continuously throughout the day • Ability to work in direct sunlight for extended periods of time • Skill to perform basic record-keeping techniques • Ability to work well with a team or independently • Strong work ethic • Have and maintain a California Driver’s License and be eligible to be insured by our insurance provider The Alameda County Fair Association is a non-profit organization managing the Alameda County Fairgrounds with nearly 300 events held each year.
