STAMFORD, CT—Former Major League Baseball manager Bobby Valentine announced on Friday that he will run for Mayor of Stamford. Valentine, 70, made the announcement in a tweet with a link to a YouTube video. "It's been great to see Stamford grow the way that is has grown over the years, and I want to lead us into that new world that Stamford will be in the future," Valentine said in the video. "The greatest commodity I have is my time, and I want to give my time and my energy and my wherewithal back to the city that has given me so much over my lifetime. State Rep. Caroline Simmons (D-144) has also filed paperwork to run. Valentine managed the Texas Rangers, New York Mets and Boston Red Sox throughout his career. He experienced the most success in New York, where he won 536 games in seven years, leading New York to the World Series in 2000.
