FREEPORT, NY — The Freeport Police Department is under scrutiny for not releasing misconduct reports of its officers in the wake of last year's George Floyd killing. The New York Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit against the police and the village, Newsday reported. The document filed Thursday in New York Supreme Court would require Freeport police to make officer misconduct records available to the public dating back to 2000, Newsday reported. The NYCLU began delving into police misconduct in September, when they filed Freedom of Information Law requests with 10 police departments, "with a particular attention to the appearance of patterns of race-based policing," the NYCLU wrote on their website. The filing was made after last year's police killing of George Floyd. Click here to read the full story by Newsday.
