GREENWICH, CT—On May 19, the Pemberwick Glenville Association will hold a public forum on Zoom at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the Glenville/Pemberwick beautification project, according to a news release. The forum will feature comments from Katie DeLuca, Greenwich Director of Planning and Zoning and others involved in the town and community. In connection with Greenwich's Plan of Conservation & Development (POCD), a study was conducted to look at preserving and enhancing the Glenville village feel of the community, as well as improving safety. The study resulted in the 2017 Glenville/Pemberwick Neighborhood Plan. This plan was developed with the input of residents who attended the public forums held at that time. A critical piece of this plan was the need to improve traffic conditions along the Glenville Road corridor, starting at Stop & Shop and continuing down to Weaver Street. As part of the Glenville Corridor Traffic Project, a group of community members decided to seize the opportunity to expand beyond the traffic mitigation and pedestrian safety goals of the plan and focus on "community character and a sense of place", which are part of the guiding principles of the POCD. As a result, the Glenville Beautification and Streetscape Task Force was formed. This Task Force is collaborating with members from the Department of Public Works, Planning & Zoning, Parks & Recreation, the Tree Conservancy, other town departments, local business owners and property owners to come up with a plan for enhancements to the Glenville Green and surrounding area. Some of the improvements the committee is considering are: a) ensuring the realignment and safety of sidewalks, including creating a landscaped buffer between the street and sidewalk, where feasible, to enhance walkability; b) adding landscaping at intersections and around the Green for a more park-like atmosphere; c) including the use of ornamental light fixtures to enhance walkability in the evening as well as ornamental utility poles and street signs that reflect the character of the village. This project will be a Public/Private Partnership, as funding for those things that don't fit into the Town traffic improvement plan will need to be raised through the local community.
