6 Libraries Reopen, Offer Limited Service In Prince George's

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Six branches of the Prince George's County Memorial Library System reopened for in-person service on April 28. Patrons can now head inside these facilities: BowieLaurelNew CarrolltonOxon HillSouth BowieSpauldings These are the sites that can accommodate the most patrons based on physical distancing requirements. Additional locations will open in May. Residents can: Use computers for one hourBrowse a limited selection in the lobbies for 15 minutesPick up items on holdPrint and scan documents This is the first time that readers have been allowed inside since the coronavirus pandemic began. The library system is in phase two of its reopening. Stage one started last July when PGCMLS began curbside pickup. Guests have made about 51,000 curbside appointments since then. This option will still be available at branches across the county. Phase three will see partial library access. Stage four will grant full reopenings. "All of us at PGCMLS look forward to seeing our beloved customers back at neighborhood branch libraries now that the public health conditions are improving," library CEO Roberta Phillps said in a press release. "We know that customers need access to our buildings, technology, and resources." Walk-up reservations will be available if capacity permits. Masking, distancing and health screenings are required. Prince Georgians can download the library's mobile application at this link. The app will offer contactless checkout. Libraries are now open on: Tuesday: 1 to 6 p.m.Wednesday: 1 to 8 p.m.Thursday and Friday: 1 to 6 p.m.Saturday: 1 to 5 p.m. Baden is the only branch with different hours. Those are: Wednesday and Thursday: 2 to 6 p.m.Friday: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Mount Rainier and Surratts-Clinton branches are still closed.
