Description

Press release from Upper Iowa University: 5/7/2021 Meet 2021 UIU graduate Serianna Dehmlow. A communications major in mass media from Huntley, Illinois, Serianna was diagnosed with autism in middle school. In 2016, Serianna started exploring colleges that would admit her as a student athlete. UIU quickly stood out because some of her high school teachers, including the school's strength and conditioning teacher, Casey Popenfoose '12, attended UIU for its academics and athletics. She also attained the sense that UIU would provide a family atmosphere amongst new friends, fellow classmates, professors and coaches. While pursuing her education, Serianna walked onto the Peacock women's track and field, and cross-country teams. Amazingly, Serianna has also registered 500 hours of volunteer service throughout the UIU community during her four years of attendance at the school. Congratulations Serianna and the entire Peacock Class of 2021! This press release was produced by Upper Iowa University. The views expressed here are the author's own.
