LEMONT, IL — Lemont Police Chief Marc Maton was presented the 2020 Chief of the Year award from the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police at a recent ceremony, after it had been delayed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Maton was given the recognition in 2020 for excelling in his department and providing "extraordinary service to the association," according to the association's website. "I am honored to be recognized by my fellow chiefs," Maton told Patch. "We have had a lot of obstacles placed before the profession during the last two years, and addressing and overcoming those challenges is really a team effort of the entire organization." Maton was also sworn in as third vice president of the association at the ceremony. Maton said he will become the organization's president in 2024. Maton has been chief of police in Lemont since 2015, and has a Master's degree in law enforcement administration from Western Illinois University and a Bachelor's degree from Northwestern University.
