Description

My name is Hava. I'm 9 years old and cute as a button. I weigh right around 6.5 lbs. Despite being so small, I have a huge heart and love to snuggle. While I will bark when people come over, as soon as they sit down to visit, I typically jump up in their laps and give them kisses. I definitely will want to sleep with you. I also know a few tricks like sit pretty, twirl and spin. Mom says I bark an awful lot. I have lived in apartments before, so the noise from people living above me are not a problem but my barking might irritate some. I used to not bark when Mom wasn't home. I would just sleep in my crate with one of my brothers. However, since we've moved to Ashland, I bark the whole time that Mom's gone. She's home 7 days a week, but everybody has to go to the grocery store sometime! If you have a roommate or neighbors that would be irritated by barking, I'm probably not the dog for you. I qualify as what many would call a special needs dog. There are a lot of things that make me not the right dog for everyone. Please read this through and decide if my quirky little self makes me the right buddy for you. I've been very anxious dog my whole life. I was severely abused before Mom got me when I was 10 months old. plus Mom, my brothers and I have all had a rough time for several years. Things are better for Mom and my brothers because we've moved in with Auntie. Unfortunately, Auntie has two big dogs and I can't stand them. Since I've never liked other dogs, there's no chance that I'll ever be happy sharing a home with my cousins. Auntie's neighbors don't like my barking, either, and a no-bark collar is a bad idea because of my anxiety. Unfortunately, when something exciting happens, like someone rings the doorbell, I have taken to charging into one of my canine brother's faces to bark, growl and snap at them, and then I turn and bark at the door. I've started doing this when I see deer and since I'm doing it more and more often, it's another reason why Mom's trying to find him a new home. I haven't always done this, but it is why Mom and the vet put me on Prozac about a year and a half ago. In fact, I've scared my oldest brother so badly that once in a while, he yelps when I've lunged into his face to snap and bark. Mom hasn't seen any scratches on him or blood so she thinks I'm scaring him badly but not hurting him. It's why Mom says I absolutely cannot go to a home with other dogs. She also thinks it's probably smart that I not go to a home with kids under 12, too. The vet, the dog trainer and Mom all think I do this because I've got anxiety. Anxiety with a capital -A-! Mom has a variety of tools to help with my anxiety such as a Thundershirt, CBD supplements, an Adaptil calming pheromone scented collar and even Prozac. She also has my vet records that you can take with you to whomever will be my new vet so they can refill my Prozac. I'm used to Mom being home all day each day except for when she has doctor appointments. It would be way too hard of an adjustment for me to go to a home where I'm alone because people are at work or school even for only half days. I know I've been spoiled being able to have Mom with me all day every day for so long. I'm probably going to take some time to adjust to being with you, so you need to be willing to be patient with me. Now, I know I have quite a bit of white in my muzzle, but I am a Chihuahua so being nine years old doesn't mean we won't necessarily have a long time together. Mom thinks once I've settled in with you, you could probably talk with your vet about me going off Prozac, but that definitely shouldn't be done until after I'm comfortable with you and have been with you for a few months and definitely not done without a vet helping supervise the situation. I'm also losing fur on my underside but I still look very cute. I do have a vet appointment next week to figure out if it's a thyroid issue, in which case, it would be another pill I'd have to take but the vet says Prozac is pretty cheap (Mom pays $15 for a two month supply) and thyroid pills are pretty cheap, too. Mom knows a lot of people charge rehoming fees to make sure you're not going to take a free dog and use it for bad things, or to make sure you can afford to take care of a pet that's new to you. She says she'd rather see you spend money on me, so if you can show her a gift card receipt for PetSmart or another pet store, or you can show a receipt showing you've got a credit at the vet's office waiting to pay for my first vet appointment, that will work. Talk to my mom some more about that. I know I have a lot of issues but trust me, I'm worth it. Mom calls me her Velcro Girl because I always want to stay within arm's reach. If you're on the couch, I might try to sit behind you to be snuggled up. I am spayed and have a Microchip.
