Description

Press release from the Wright County Government: May 6, 2021 With the 2021 fishing opener right around the corner, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is taking an aggressive approach to curb the spread of silver carp, which have been taking over habitats of portions of the Mississippi River since they were discovered in Arkansas in the 1970s and have been spreading northward since. Invasive carp can grow to be quite large, compete with native species and pose a threat to rivers and lakes. No spawning populations have been detected to date in Minnesota waters and the DNR is fighting aggressively to prevent it.
