Maintenance Technician I – Plumber Apprentice ABOUT POMONA COLLEGE: Located near Los Angeles, California, Pomona College is widely regarded as one of the nation's premier liberal arts colleges. POSITION SUMMARY: The Maintenance Technician I / Plumber maintains and performs work orders requested by Pomona College faculty, staff, and students for 62 buildings. This position assists with plumbing and preventative maintenance as directed. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events. A minimum of 2 years of plumbing maintenance experience is required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician I performs the following essential duties and responsibilities: Perform some skilled tasks independently or as part of a regular maintenance crew. Maintain and repair buildings and related facilities and equipment using tools of the trade. Repair plumbing issues (e.g. clogged toilets, leaky faucets, and snake drains). Repair walls, doors, and windows utilizing carpentry skills. Perform special requests and setups (e.g. moves, hanging shelving or pictures, installing risers or sunshade for special events). Schedule work for repairs in a timely manner. Assist Maintenance Technician II in performing Plumbing and preventative maintenance tasks. Collect and install fire extinguishers for annual preventative maintenance in all buildings, working with an outside contractor. Prepare all dorms in the summer for Fall semester occupancy including repair and check of all, plumbing, toilets, snake shower drains, shower valves, lube restroom fixtures, caulk showers, and sinks. Work with Maintenance Technician II in repairing domestic water issues. Serve as a member of the College’s Emergency Response Team for Search and Rescue. Serve as a member of College’s Emergency Response Team for Search and Rescue, attending all required training including CERT. Coordinate special projects/tasks and provide assistance as assigned. REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday with a 30-minute meal break. Overtime, holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
