Goodnow Events Will Focus On Racism, Systemic Inequality

SUDBURY, MA — Two Sudbury CARES (Community Anti-Racism Education Series) events are coming up at the Goodnow Library in May focusing on structural racism and systemic inequality. One of the events will be specifically geared toward elementary-age children. Here's more from a Goodnow Library press release: Goodnow Library invites the community to take part in a two Sudbury CARES events about issues surrounding structural racism and systemic inequality. On Wednesday, May 12, from 4-4:45 p.m., children in Grades 4 and 5 are invited to discuss "Three Keys" by Kelly Yang. This Scholastic novel focuses on Mia, who faces both the normal challenges of a sixth-grader and the possibility that a new immigration law will change the lives of her family. Parents may call 978-440-5540 to request a copy. "Three Keys" also is available as an e-audiobook on Hoopla. On Wednesday, May 19, at 7 p.m., the Library will host a discussion of E'Ula Green's TED Talk, "How to Go Beyond Diversity and Inclusion to Community and Belonging." Participants will watch the TED Talk together at the beginning of the program, but may also view it in advance here. The Library and community members joined to form Sudbury CARES (Community Anti-Racism Education Series) following the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery in 2020. Sudbury CARES is devoted to promoting knowledge and information, leading to understanding and empathy. "Our goals are to allow all voices to be heard, with respect, and to move forward together in understanding toward a better community," Library Director Esmé Green said.
