LONG BEACH, NY — In commemorating Parents as Reading Partners at West Elementary School, students took part in a virtual "meet and greet" with author Alexandra Penfold.
She read from her books, "All are Welcome" and "Big Feelings" and talked about the process of writing and publishing, the Long Beach Public School said in a statement.
As part of the presentation, Penfold took questions from the students gathered from kindergarten to fifth grade.
There was also a strong interest in reading at Long Beach Middle School, where eighth graders had book buddies from Wantagh Elementary School.
The older classmates met virtually with their younger peers. Long Beach Public School said in a statement. The eighth-graders showed off questioning techniques, while the first graders spotlighted their literacy skills as part of a Reader's Workshop.
