Description

WESTPORT, CT — Police ask Westport residents to be cautious of calls from scammers pretending to be Eversource employees and threatening to shut off residents' power. In a Facebook post Wednesday, police said some residents reported having received a call from an "Eversource" representative who threatened to disconnect their electricity unless they received an immediate payment from the resident. According to police, these calls are a scam and some residents have sent payments to the suspected scammers through Zelle. "If anyone calls, emails or visits your home or business regarding an outstanding payment and threatens to disconnect your power, it is not Eversource," police said on Facebook. According to police, any Eversource customer who is legitimately scheduled for disconnection due to nonpayment must receive written notice in the mail, which includes actions the customer can take to maintain service. Eversource will also never request payment through Zelle, police said. Further information can be found on the department's Facebook page.
