NEW HAVEN, CT — Two women are facing gun charges after a traffic stop led officers to find a stolen semi-automatic handgun, New Haven police said.
According to a news release, Tuesday night police patrol pulled over a 2014 Mercedes C250 near Kossuth Street and Congress Avenue that failed to use a turn signal. Police said the driver, Sandy Inthisone, 25, when asked to give them license and car registration, she "provided officers with a clear bag containing a plant-like substance which tested positive for the presence of marijuana."
Police then searched the car and, Sgt. Shayna Kendall said, found "a semi-automatic handgun which was discovered to have been stolen."
Inthisone, and passenger Stephanie Camacho, 24, were then arrested.
Kendall said Inthisone was charged with having a weapon in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and having no driver license. Camacho was charged with having a weapon in a motor vehicle and possession of a pistol without a permit.
The women are being held on a $250,000 bail.
