Description
POINT PLEASANT BEACH—The Point Pleasant Beach borough council passed an ordinance during its May 4 meeting that gives the borough input on how 5G mobile technology can be installed in the borough and where it can be installed.
According to the ordinance, the borough has the right to "preserve the aesthetics of the community by encouraging the location of 5G equipment on existing or pre-approved infrastructure."
"Before the passing of this ordinance, we were totally exposed in regards to number of installations, proximity, aesthetics, etc.," Mayor Paul Kanitra said.
"Now we will have a lot more controls available to us if and when cell phone companies come to town and attempt to leverage the authority given to them by the FCC to bring 5G in. We anticipate this action alone should reduce the potential numbers of polls and equipment by almost 75% without residents having to worry about any loss of coverage either."
