LAKEWOOD, NJ — A Lakewood man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a 2020 armed robbery that netted him $130, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said. Elioenai Aguinaga, 32, was sentenced Wednesday to eight years, subject to the No Early Release Act, by Superior Court Judge Rochelle Gizinski as a result of his Jan. 27 guilty plea to robbery, meaning Aguinaga will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence before he may be considered for parole eligibility. The robbery happened March 26, 2020 at Taylor's Pharmacy on Madison Avenue. Police were told a man had entered the pharmacy, brandished a semi-automatic handgun at the clerk and demanded money from the register. He left with about $130, police said. The investigation found it was Aguinaga who committed the robbery, police said. He was arrested April 25, 2020, and has been held at the Ocean County Jail since then. Assistant Prosecutor Kaitlyn Burke handled the case. Billhimer praised "the diligence and resolve exhibited by officers of the Lakewood Township Police Department and detective bureau in their investigation of this matter which resulted in Aguinaga's guilty plea, and ultimately the lengthy state prison sentence imposed."
