The Morris Museum curates beauty, experience, thought, and conversation centered in its collections of art, music, history, and science. Founded in 1913 in Morristown, New Jersey, the Museum serves both a local and international constituency through its wide variety of collections, exhibitions, and performing-arts productions. With a long tradition of serving its surrounding communities, the Museum provides extensive, family-friendly educational programs, complemented by sophisticated public programming for adults. It also houses the creatively-utilized, 312-seat Bickford Theatre. The is a position that will perform the day-to-day cleaning and routine maintenance of the museum. This position will also act as security for the museum. When needed, this position will assist with exhibit space painting projects. Position: Maintenance Assistant Full-time, $17 hourly with benefits Essential Functions: Duties would involve removing trash and recycling, cleaning, and maintaining common areas, exhibit spaces, office halls and restrooms.Routine maintenance of the Museum facility and theatre, which includes minor repairs, renovations, and various custodial duties.Regularly inspects Museum buildings and grounds to ensure proper maintenance in compliance with safety codes and sound business practices.Unlock/lock the facility and deactivate/activate the alarm systems prior to opening and closing. Ensure work areas are clean, inventoried, and maintained in a professional manner. Turn on all lights and mechanical systems throughout the museum.Provides a security presence within the Museum.Snow removal.At times required to handle deliveries and run errands to the bank and post office. Perform other related tasks as specified.Painting assistance would be on an as-needed basis. Mostly involving exhibit spaces.Clean all common room areas, exhibit spaces and office halls.Clean, disinfect. restock and monitor restrooms.Respond to any cleaning requests and emergencies.Remove trash/recycling and dispose of into designated receptacles.Assist in the turnaround of exhibit spaces by painting walls and partitions.Assist the Facilities Manager with, but limited to, light maintenance projects (moving furniture, changing lightbulbs, delivering material to locations around the museum).Possess a high school diploma or relevant experience.Ability to lift weights consistent with cleaning and painting supplies.Must be able to stand for long periods of time while performing duties.Ability and willingness to learn new methods and procedures.Able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.Must be reliable, professional and trust worthy.Prepared to execute all duties and responsibilities in a safe and timely manner.Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.Key Relationships: Reports to Facilities ManagerWednesday-Friday 8 am to 4 pm, Saturday and Sunday 10 AM to 6 PMFlexibility to work overtime, nights.Ability to pass a background check.The Morris Museum is an Equal-Opportunity Employer, dedicated to the goal of building a multicultural staff, with a passion to reach and serve our expanding, diverse public.
