Description

CHICAGO — Get ready for a section of Cicero Avenue to be reduced to two lanes that will affect traffic on the South Side. The Illinois Department of Transportation announced improvements to the bridge that carries Cicero Avenue (Illinois 50) over the Belt Railroad Company in Chicago and Bedford Park. Lane reductions will begin, weather permitting, Monday, May 17. To accommodate the work, Cicero Avenue will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between 67th and 71st streets. Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction. The project, which consists of a new bridge deck overlay with joint replacement and structural steel repairs, is expected to be completed in November. You may want to allow extra time to get to Chicago Midway Airport if approaching from the South Side. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
