Description
MURRIETA, CA — One of Murrieta's signature events — the annual Tour de Murrieta bike race — is a go for 2021.
"We are excited to support our first major event in over a year, and it will be modified to meet COVID safety protocols," the city confirmed in its May newsletter.
The USA Cycling sanctioned event in downtown was last held March 7-8, 2020, just before pandemic restrictions set in. This year, the event resumes the weekend of June 5-6.
Saturday's Grand Prix — featuring a 1-mile "lightning-fast" course through historic downtown — will be unchanged from previous years. The Circuit racecourse will be a rolling 4-miler with eight turns, according to event organizers.
Celebrating the race's 16-year anniversary, Saturday's event will be a festival atmosphere with free spectator viewing, an exposition area, free energy drinks, music, and the popular kids' race.
A Women's Category IV-V entry-level race will be held in both Saturday's and Sunday's stages.
The 2021 presenting sponsor for the event is Old Town's Wine Ranch Grill & Cellars (which is celebrating its 3-year anniversary on Washington Avenue this Saturday).
