AURORA, IL — A worker at the former Copley Hospital renovation site is in critical condition after bricks fell on him while on site Monday, officials said.
The man was working on the roof of a building at around 8 a.m. when bricks and limestone from a higher building dislodged and fell, striking the man in the head. Aurora Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Rhodes said the bricks fell from about 60 to 70 feet.
The worker was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora but then airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center with critical head wounds, according to officials.
The development at the old Copley Hospital is a $128 million project that would transform the defunct site into a mixed use property with apartments, senior homes, health care facilities and walking paths.
