The Vermilion Rotary Club invites you to join us in a beach cleanup to remove microplastic pollution at Main Street Beach!
The Vermilion Rotary Club and Erie Conservation District have teamed up to bring attention to the microplastic pollution that is present on all of our Lake Erie beaches.
Microplastics are plastic particles less than 5 mm (0.2 inches) in diameter. They result from commercial product development and the breakdown of larger plastic items. The problem with microplastics is that they do not break down into harmless molecules- plastics can take hundreds to thousands of years to decompose, all the while, they're negatively affecting our aquatic ecosystems.
Want to learn how you can help reduce microplastic pollution? Come join our beach cleanup from 12:00-2:00 pm on Saturday, May 22nd at Main Street Beach! We will get more in-depth about the environmental issues caused by microplastic pollution, train participants on how to effectively remove microplastics and connect with other Vermilion residents who are passionate about having happy, healthy beaches.
Volunteers will receive a small gift to promote sustainable choices by reducing the need for single-use plastics. While supplies last.
We encourage you to bring your own gloves, buckets and shovels, if possible.
